June “Maximum Screenwriting” seminar postponed

UPDATE (5/2/2017): Jeff Schimmel has postponed the all-new MAXIMUM SCREENWRITING seminar that he had scheduled for June 3-4, 2017, in Chicago, and following up on the two-day seminar he conducted for over three dozen CSN members in July 2015. More information will be posted when the seminar after the seminar has been re-scheduled.

Jeff’s MAXIMUM SCREENWRITING seminar is all-new for 2017. It complements the two-day seminar he presented for the CSN community two years ago; however, attendance at the 2015 seminar is not a prerequisite for understanding and benefiting from the material presented in this 2017 seminar, which covers the following material:

DAY ONE: “SHOW AND TELL” (9:00a-6:00p)

Learn by SEEING – not by READING! If a picture is worth 1,000 words, film clips are worth 1,000,000.

Jeff uses famous movies to teach every major story element studios look for in YOUR screenplay.

Screenwriters at every level of experience read countless books and blogs on how to write a script, plus they attend classes, online and in person, where they hear lectures about story structure, character, dialogue, etc.

Until now, there has never been a workshop that exclusively uses video from well known movies to teach screenwriters about every aspect of a great screenplay.  That’s what our “Show And Tell” course is all about.

Many screenwriters find concepts such as Mid Act Two Reversal, All Is Lost Moment, Resurrection, Sub-Plots, Symmetrical Plots, and Multiple Call Backs hard to understand, regardless of how detailed the explanation.  “Show And Tell” uses numerous film clips to make it all crystal clear, with an in-depth discussion to answer every question.  After just eight hours with Jeff, you’ll never be confused by these screenplay milestones again.

PLEASE NOTE: THE “SHOW AND TELL” SEMINAR WAS SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED FOR THOSE WHO INTEND TO WRITE AND SELL FEATURE-LENGTH SCREENPLAYS AND TELEVISION SERIES TO STUDIOS AND NETWORKS. WHILE WE STRIVE TO PROVIDE THE BEST EDUCATION POSSIBLE FOR SCREENWRITERS EVERYWHERE, IF YOUR ULTIMATE GOAL IS TO PRODUCE SHORT FILMS LOCALLY, THIS CLASS MAY NOT BE FOR YOU.

DAY TWO: “LET’S MAKE A DEAL” (9:00a-6:00p)

YOU’RE IN SHOW BUSINESS – EMPHASIS ON “BUSINESS” — Don’t Let Your Industry Inexperience Ruin Your Chance For Success

Session 1: MY SCRIPT IS DONE. NOW WHAT? (9am-11am)

You’ve devoted a tremendous amount of time to your script, dripping your blood, sweat and tears onto every page.  The reality for screenwriters is this: writing is only half the battle.  The next steps of finding an agent, getting your script into the hands of gatekeeping readers, and scoring in pitch meetings are fraught with deadly pitfalls.  Don’t gamble with your hard work. Learn the ropes from Jeff.

Session 2: WHAT DOES A GREAT PITCH LOOK LIKE? (11am-1pm)

Listening to a lecture about the art of pitching a project can provide valuable information, but if you’ve never been in an actual pitch meeting with studio or network executives, then you’ve never played the game – especially with the skill of a professional.  Watching custom made videos that depict pitches ranging from awesome to average to disastrous will plant indelible images of the good, bad and ugly in your memory bank.

Session 3: THE UNSCRIPTED ALTERNATIVE (2pm-4pm)

Reality television is an unstoppable juggernaut that rules the airwaves.  It’s cheap to produce, and the fact is, America is addicted.  Believe it or not, everyone is getting into the unscripted side of the business, including A-list screenwriters.  The good news is that anyone can sell a reality show – if their idea and pitch are truly worthy.  In just two hours, Jeff will break down the secret formula.

Session 4: MONSTER Q & A (4pm-6pm)

The weekend concludes with detailed, straightforward answers to every question asked by attendees.  As an added bonus, Jeff will also provide answers to important questions that should’ve been asked – but weren’t.
